Simple device for the removal of contact lenses.

چکیده
A contact lens may be removed from the eye either manually or by using a small rubber sucker. The removal of lenses by the rubber sucker technique is difficult at times, especially when the lens is fenestrated, as the vacuum cannot be maintained. Assistance in the removal of the lens may be obtained by modifying existing rubber suckers. The bulb is cut off with a sharp blade and into the lumen so exposed is inserted a glass pipette removed from a drop-bottle. The other end of the pipette is attached to a rubber tube of convenient length. A second glass pipette which has been lightly packed with cotton wool to act as a barrier to saliva and to prevent condensation in the tube is fitted into the other end of the rubber tube. The device is then assembled and suction is provided by the mouth and the vacuum controlled by the tongue as in using a volumetric pipette. This method should prove most useful in the removal of soft lenses. The surface tension between cornea and fenestrated lens is readily reduced and the lens may be removed more easily by gently blowing down the pipette with the bell of the applicator apposed to the fenestration or fenestrations. A haptic type sucker may be used for large hard lenses and for soft lenses.

A clinical decision support system for contact lens evaluation
Background: Contact lenses are transparent, thin plastic disks that cover the surface of the cornea. Appropriate lens prescription should be performed properly by an expert to provide better visual acuity and reduce side effects. The lens administration is a multi-stage, complex and time-consuming process involving many considerations. The purpose of this study was to develop a decision support...
متن کاملThe study of Lysozyme adsorption onto 2-hydroxyethylmethacrylates and Silicon Hydrogel Contact Lenses
In order to increase the water content and the oxygen permeability of hydrogels used in themanufacture of contact lenses, the polar monomer Silicon Hydrogel Contact Lenses (SHCL), and 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) were copolymerized with the hydrogels. Due to the presence ofpolar monomers in the conventional contact lenses, the major component of the human tear, lysozyme is extensively adso...
متن کاملThe effect of polar copolymers in protein absorption on contact lenses on 2-Hydroxyethyl methacrylate(HEMA)
For the purpose of increasing the permeability to oxygen and equilibrium water content in contact lenses, polar copolymers with nonionic monomers such as 2-hydroxyethle methacrylate(HEMA) Is used. By adding the polar monomers to (HEMA), the permeability to oxygen and equilibrium with water content is increased and also the absorption of proteins on lens surface is changed. In this research, the...

PURPOSE To investigate the efficiency of lysozyme and albumin removal from silicone hydrogel and conventional contact lenses, using a polyhexamethylene biguanide multipurpose solution (MPS) in a soaking or rubbing/soaking application and a hydrogen peroxide system (H(2)O(2)). METHODS Etafilcon A, lotrafilcon B and balafilcon A materials were incubated in protein solutions for up to 14 days. L...
متن کاملPhotokeratoscopy in fitting contact lens after penetrating keratoplasty.
The formula based on keratometric readings which is generally used is unsatisfactory for fitting contact lenses after penetrating keratoplasty, possibly owing to lack of information on the peripheral corneal toricity. In these studies a photokeratoscope was used to examine the entire graft topography. In all cases the corneal configuration became more normal after suture removal, but a consider...
